ROB SCHOLTE
In the 1980s, Rob Scholte was an international art sensation, his work often compared to that of Jeff Koons and Robert Mapplethorpe. He lived the life of a rock star, until a tragic event in 1994 changed everything. A hand grenade exploded under his car, resulting in the amputation of both his legs. The fast-paced life he once knew gave way to 14 years of silence. During this time, he withdrew from the public eye, no exhibitions, no media, no publicity of any kind. These years were devoted entirely to himself and his family.
As admirers of both his work and his resilience, we created this portrait of him just before he was forced to close his museum.
