​Takoyaki: ball-shaped savory pancakes filled with octopus (tako), dried shrimp, Japanese pickled ginger, and tempura scraps. This snack is widely available on nearly every street corner in Japan and rivals all-time favorites like yakitori and ramen in popularity. A portion typically consists of six piping-hot balls, each about the size of a golf ball, and is usually topped with Japanese barbecue sauce, Kewpie mayonnaise, dried seaweed, and bonito flakes for the ultimate umami kick.
